This year 9 cyclists died in road accidents, 8 were injured

“Cyclists are defenseless participants in road traffic, and since there are no constructive safety elements on the bicycle that can protect the rider during an accident, collisions can have severe consequences for them. Therefore, it is of particular importance for cyclists to comply with traffic rules, ensure the technical serviceability of their bicycles, and take necessary measures to be visible on the road during dark hours and in conditions of limited visibility.”

elchi reports that this was stated by the Main State Traffic Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

According to the information, the registration of 16 road traffic accidents resulting in the hitting of cyclists in the first 9 months of the current year, the death of 9 people and the injury of 8 people in these accidents, causes serious concern and demonstrates the vital importance of complying with the rules and taking personal safety measures:

“Persons moving by bicycle in settlements located on the sides of republican highways must be especially careful. The risk of severe accidents increases when riding on high-speed roads without taking necessary measures during dark hours or in conditions of limited visibility, as well as on technically faulty bicycles not equipped with appropriate equipment.

According to the legislation, the movement of bicycles on highways is prohibited. The cyclist must move along a special bicycle lane, and in the absence of such a lane, along the edge of the traffic lane or the shoulder of the road. The bicycle must be technically sound and equipped with the necessary equipment, and no load or passenger that hinders its control should be carried”.

The Main State Traffic Police Department calls on cyclists, as well as other persons driving two-wheeled vehicles, to strictly adhere to traffic rules, and not to endanger their lives and health and the lives and health of other road users of the road.
