Iran Expands Attacks on Tankers Beyond Strait of Hormuz

Iran is reportedly expanding its attacks on commercial vessels beyond the Strait of Hormuz, in the directions of the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.

elchi reports that the newspaper “Financial Times” published information about this.

It was noted that the tanker “Acers” near Qatar and the supertanker “Gem No. 2” near the shores of the United Arab Emirates were attacked. It was reported that fires occurred on the ships and there were casualties during the incidents.

The publication emphasized that the attacks coincided with a time when Iran is trying to strengthen its control over the strategically important sea route and to limit the oil exports of the region’s countries.

According to “Euronews”, the Naval Forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran have warned that they will pursue ships passing through routes they consider unauthorized from the Strait of Hormuz in other areas of the region as well. The organization stated that measures against such ships will not be limited only to the strait.

However, Iran’s responsibility for the separate incidents near Qatar and the UAE has not been independently confirmed in all cases. Maritime security agencies have released information about some attacks, but investigations into the causes and perpetrators of the incidents are ongoing.
