A 7.6 magnitude earthquake has occurred in southern Panama.
“Elchi” reports that according to the U.S. Geological Survey, the epicenter of the tremors was located approximately 10 kilometers southwest of the settlement of Pitaloza-Arriba, and the focus was at a depth of 10 kilometers. The earthquake was strongly felt in the capital, Panama City.
The U.S. Tsunami Warning Center has issued a warning about a possible tsunami threat for the coasts of Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Nicaragua, and Guatemala.
Panama’s Civil Defense Service is investigating possible damage in areas near the epicenter. So far, there is no information about casualties or significant damage.
