Turkmenistan will continue to work responsibly with its partners to fulfill the tasks set during its chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
According to elchi, this was stated by Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov during his speech at the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State held in the city of Turkmenbashi.
He noted that the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State is one of the main events in the annual activities of the Commonwealth:
“Today we must review the results of the work done and define the tasks and directions for the future.”
Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that Turkmenistan has approached its responsibilities within the framework of its CIS chairmanship responsibly. According to him, the timely holding of planned events was ensured, meetings of heads of government and the Economic Council were organized, and the commission on economic issues operated regularly.
The President of Turkmenistan emphasized that the meetings held were substantive and constructive, and practical decisions were made as a result.
He thanked the delegations for their readiness to cooperate and for their contributions to the achieved results.
“I am confident that the upcoming discussions and exchange of views will define important directions for our future activities. Our unchanging main goal is to ensure the welfare and progress of our peoples, and to preserve and increase the positive and valuable factors that unite us,” said Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
He added that the realization of the CIS’s potential in political, economic, and humanitarian spheres, the increase of the Commonwealth’s authority and effectiveness in the international arena, and the strengthening of partnership relations with other reputable organizations are among the main tasks.
According to Serdar Berdimuhamedov, CIS member states have all the necessary opportunities to achieve these goals.
The President of Turkmenistan also noted that this year’s meeting coincides with the 35th anniversary of the CIS establishment.
“This is an important date. Looking back at the path traveled today, it can be confidently said that the Commonwealth of Independent States has traveled this path with dignity. Despite objective difficulties, it has been possible to preserve the foundation of cooperation and ensure its equitable, mutually respectful, and beneficial character,” he emphasized.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov stated that trade and economic relations between CIS countries are developing consistently, and a positive trend has been observed in the overall trade turnover, especially in recent years.
According to him, the agenda of political and diplomatic cooperation is also expanding. The CIS format has proven itself as a convenient platform for diplomatic consultations on topical international issues.
The President of Turkmenistan said that humanitarian relations cover culture, science, education, sports, tourism, and other important areas. He noted that this cooperation serves to strengthen mutual understanding and trust between the peoples of the CIS and significantly complements interstate relations. Serdar Berdimuhamedov also noted that inter-parliamentary cooperation has become significantly more active.
