The VIII Congress of the New Azerbaijan Party will be held today.
The last – VII Congress of YAP was held on March 5, 2021.
According to the Charter, the congress is convened at least once every 5 years.
The exclusive powers of the congress include the election of the party chairman, determining the number of members of the Board, the Audit Commission, and the Council of Veterans, the election of members of the Board and the Audit Commission, as well as members, chairman, and deputy chairman of the Council of Veterans for a term of five years, and their early dismissal from office, based on the proposal of the party chairman.
The adoption of the Party Charter, as well as making amendments and additions to the Charter, are also among the powers of the Congress.
It should be noted that the decision on the creation of the New Azerbaijan Party (YAP), as well as the adoption of the Party’s Program and Charter, was made at the founding conference held in Nakhchivan on November 21, 1992, under the chairmanship of National Leader Heydar Aliyev. At the conference, Heydar Aliyev was elected chairman of the party. Heydar Aliyev was unanimously awarded this post at the I congress held in Baku in 1999 and the II congress held in 2001.
President Ilham Aliyev was elected chairman of the party at the III, IV, V, VI, and VII congresses.
According to the Charter, the YAP chairman is the governing body of the party and is considered the highest elected official of the party. The party chairman is elected by a simple majority of votes (by open voting) of the delegates participating in the party congress. The term of office of the Party Chairman is 5 years. The Party Chairman has a first deputy and deputies. The Party Chairman appoints his deputies.
By the orders of YAP Chairman Ilham Aliyev, on March 5, 2021, Mehriban Aliyeva was appointed first deputy party chairman, Tahir Budagov was appointed deputy party chairman – Head of the Central Apparatus, and Ali Ahmadov was appointed deputy party chairman.
