New Azerbaijani Language Textbook Published in St. Petersburg

A new textbook titled “Azerbaijani Language. Basic Course” has been published in St. Petersburg for Russian-speaking readers who want to learn the Azerbaijani language.

“Elchi” reports that the author of the publication is Shahnaz Kamalova, a candidate of philological sciences and a lecturer at the Department of Turkic Philology at St. Petersburg State University’s Faculty of Oriental Studies. The textbook was published this year by “KARO” publishing house.

The course consists of 26 lessons and is intended for both beginners learning Azerbaijani and those interested in the culture and traditions of our country. Each lesson includes a separate grammatical topic, exercises to reinforce the material covered, as well as vocabulary and practical phrases used in daily communication.

The grammatical material is structured based on the principle of simple to complex and is also designed for those who wish to learn Azerbaijani independently. The textbook includes Azerbaijani-Russian and Russian-Azerbaijani dictionaries, and more complex exercises are provided with answers.

Special attention has also been paid to developing listening comprehension skills in the Azerbaijani language. An audio supplement voiced by native Azerbaijani speakers has been prepared for the textbook. This file can be obtained from the publisher’s website for an additional fee.

In the preface, Sh. Kamalova notes that the textbook summarizes her knowledge and many years of experience in teaching the Azerbaijani language to Russian-speaking students. Readers who complete the basic course will be able to read, speak, and understand conversations in Azerbaijani.

The publication is 496 pages long.
