US and Russia in talks over major oil deal

The US and Russia are in talks over a major oil deal.

This was reported by “The New York Times“.

It was noted that US President’s Special Representative Steve Witkoff and US leader’s son-in-law Jared Kushner are discussing a multi-billion dollar oil deal with Moscow in parallel with talks to stop the war in Ukraine.

According to the publication, the deal concerns oil fields, refineries, and gas stations owned by the Russian company “Lukoil” in various countries around the world.

This large-scale deal, which covers various assets from oil fields in Cameroon and refineries in Europe to a network of gas stations in New Jersey, requires the approval of the US government and the Kremlin.

According to the publication, Russian President Vladimir Putin touched upon this deal issue during a meeting with Witkoff and Kushner at the Kremlin on September 5. Citing informed sources, the newspaper writes that according to one of the interlocutors, Putin suggested closing this deal to show Russians the possibility of doing business with the US. “The New York Times” writes that, as a result, the conclusion of the oil deal depends on the decisions of Putin and Trump.

The White House, the US Department of the Treasury, and “Lukoil” did not respond to the inquiries sent by “The New York Times” journalists for comment.
