6 new Ebola cases registered in Congo

6 new cases of Ebola virus infection have been detected in areas controlled by the rebel AFC/M23 group in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

2 new cases were registered in the Kaina health zone of North Kivu province, and 4 new cases in the neighboring Alimbongo zone.

The group stated that work is underway to identify and monitor individuals who have been in contact with the infected.

Previously, it was announced that there were no cases of Ebola virus infection in the areas controlled by AFC/M23, but a new case of the disease was confirmed in the Kaina zone at the beginning of September.

The Ebola epidemic in eastern Congo was detected on May 15. According to the country’s government, the number of confirmed cases has reached 8.3 thousand, and more than 4 thousand people have died.
