US Imposes Sanctions on Hamas Financial Network

The US on Monday imposed further sanctions on Hamas’s financial network, including a member of the Palestinian group’s military wing, two individuals raising funds in France, and two entities.

elchi reported, citing Reuters, that the US Department of the Treasury announced this.

“These sanctions reveal a complex multi-year financial architecture that has directed more than $2 million to Hamas through the use of fraudulent charitable structures and cryptocurrency channels. This demonstrates the organization’s continued ability to adapt its fundraising methods to evade detection,” the US Treasury Department said in a statement.

According to the agency, Hamas member Salim Abdallah Salim al-Zaeem is the deputy battalion commander of the military wing of the group in the Gaza Strip.

The Treasury Department said he oversees a financial network that uses various money transfer services and cryptocurrency wallets to transfer significant amounts of funds to Hamas’s military wing, the “Al-Qassam” Brigades.
