Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has summoned the Danish Ambassador, Rolf Holmboe, over an incident involving a Danish Air Force (DAF) “Fennec” type helicopter.
“Elchi” reports that this was stated in a message from the Russian MFA.
It was stated that on September 14, an objection was lodged with Denmark regarding the actions of a Danish helicopter towards Russia’s “Soobrazitelni” corvette (ship) in neutral waters in the southwestern part of the Baltic Sea.
Despite repeated warnings from the Russian crew, the helicopter approached the ship and remained suspended in the air at an altitude of about 50 meters. The ministry stated that such actions create a danger to navigation and could lead to an accident.
It was also emphasized that after two signal flares were fired from the corvette’s deck, the helicopter stopped its maneuvers and left the area.
The Russian MFA declared that it considers the actions of the Danish helicopter a violation of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. The Moscow side also warned that the repetition of such actions in the Baltic region, under conditions of tension, could lead to escalation and a serious incident.
