Sahiba Gafarova met with the President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Dominican Republic

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with Alfredo Pacheco, President of the Chamber of Deputies of the National Congress of the Dominican Republic, on the sidelines of the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) held in Istanbul.

During the meeting, an exchange of views took place regarding the prospects for the development of inter-parliamentary relations and other issues. During the conversation, the importance of cooperation between our countries within the framework of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the UN, and other international organizations was noted, and it was emphasized that this serves common interests.

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova stated that Azerbaijan attaches special importance to the expansion of international cooperation and the promotion of parliamentary diplomacy. The Speaker noted that during its chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement, Azerbaijan put forward important initiatives aimed at strengthening solidarity among member states, including promoting mutual support to protect the interests of small island states and responding jointly to global challenges. She also stated that within the framework of its COP29 presidency, Azerbaijan has constantly kept the concerns of small island states in focus and attached special importance to uniting international efforts to solve the problems they face. To this end, a special summit dedicated to the problems of these states was held within the framework of COP29. Sahiba Gafarova also emphasized that the creation and institutional development of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network has become an important platform in terms of multilateral parliamentary cooperation.

Alfredo Pacheco expressed his country’s interest in expanding relations with Azerbaijan, noting that increasing contacts between parliaments will contribute to the development of relations.
