The restoration work being carried out in Kalbajar today is the restoration of historical justice.
elchi reports that this was stated by Bashir Hajiyev, Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Kalbajar district, at the event titled “Lachin & Kalbajar: The road from urbicide and post-conflict reconstruction” held within the framework of WUF13.
He stated that they aim to transform these territories into a highly developed region: “Extensive restoration and reconstruction work is currently underway in Kalbajar. Kalbajar was the most heavily mine-contaminated area. From 2020 to 2026, 22,200,461 hectares of land in Kalbajar have been cleared of mines. Between 2020 and 2026, several mine explosions occurred in Kalbajar, and people sustained injuries of varying degrees. For this reason, as the first and most important step in the initial phase of the reconstruction and construction processes carried out in Kalbajar, mine clearance and neutralization of unexploded ordnance were conducted.
Bringing the territories to a safe state is of great importance both for the construction of new settlements and for ensuring the safe and dignified return of former internally displaced persons to their native lands.”
