The Role of Youth in Protecting Constitutional and Sovereignty Values is of Particular Importance

Statement by Nuraddin Mehdiyev, Chairman of the “Karabakh” Youth Public Union for Information and Communication Technologies, to our website
One of the main pillars of Azerbaijan’s existence as an independent state, the protection of national interests, and future development is our Constitution and state sovereignty. The protection of these values and their transmission to future generations is not only the responsibility of every citizen but also of great importance for our youth to be raised in a spirit of patriotism, to increase their legal knowledge, and to strengthen their statehood thinking.
The declaration of 2025 as the “Year of Constitution and Sovereignty” in our country by the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has created a significant basis for the broader promotion of the landmark events in our statehood history, our national sovereignty, and the role of the Constitution in societal life.
The Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan, adopted on November 12, 1995, is the supreme law that defines the legal foundations of our independent state. The Constitution defines the principles of state governance, the rights and freedoms of citizens, and the legal framework for the activities of state bodies. Therefore, it is crucial for young people to deeply understand the essence of the Constitution, their rights and responsibilities, and the importance of the rule of law in the development of society.
Youth are not only the future of the country but also a significant force actively participating in its social, scientific, cultural, and cultural life today. Youth with legal knowledge, committed to national-moral values, and capable of analyzing contemporary global processes can contribute to the sustainable development of our state. In this regard, organizing discussions, seminars, scientific conferences, and educational projects among youth on the topics of the Constitution, civic responsibility, legal education, and sovereignty is of particular importance.
The full restoration of Azerbaijan’s state sovereignty is an important stage in our history. As a result of the Victory in the Patriotic War and the anti-terror measures carried out in September 2023, the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country have been fully restored, and the legal force of the Constitution has been ensured throughout the country. The accurate, comprehensive, and fact-based communication of these historical events to young people is an important task for preserving national memory and strengthening statehood consciousness.
Sovereignty is not limited to the protection of state borders and territorial integrity. It also means independent decision-making, the defense of national interests, the strengthening of state institutions, and the determination of the country’s future based on its own development priorities. It is important for the future of our state that young people understand the essence of this concept, demonstrate a responsible attitude in the country’s development, and actively participate in public processes.
As the “Karabakh” Youth Public Union for Information and Communication Technologies, we consider the education of youth, the development of their skills in the effective use of information technologies, and the promotion of national statehood values as important directions of our activities. In the modern information environment, it is also of particular importance for young people to rely on reliable sources, distinguish disinformation, critically approach historical facts, and engage in responsible information sharing.
I believe that the promotion of topics related to the Constitution and sovereignty should not be evaluated solely as an activity related to a specific year. Education in this direction should be continuous and encompass schools, universities, youth organizations, and society as a whole. Our youth should not only know their rights but also understand their responsibilities, respect the rule of law, and contribute to the development of society.
The formation of a youth with high legal knowledge, patriotism, initiative, and responsibility will serve for the reliable protection of Azerbaijan’s state independence, sovereignty, and national interests in the future. Respect for the Constitution, loyalty to statehood values, and civic responsibility should become principles that every young person follows in their daily life.
