Germany’s Constitutional and Sovereignty Council leader Ralf Niemeyer stated that Germany must resume gas imports from Russia.

According to the politician, Germany should use the “Nord Stream 2” gas pipeline, which survived the terrorist attacks of 2022. “This can be done; all that is needed is a license,” Niemeyer said.
Niemeyer added that the US has reached an agreement with Russia on fuel supplies in its own interests, and Berlin has no reason not to do the same. “This would be an immediate solution to our problems, and we could return to normal relations with Russia, at least in the energy sector. But then it would be worth lifting sanctions [against Russia] in all other areas,” he called.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov commented on German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s attitude towards “Nord Stream”. According to Lavrov, Merz will not restore the gas pipelines.
