Approximately 980,000 people have been deported from the US during the first 18 months of Donald Trump’s second presidential term.
elchi reports that the US Migration Policy Institute (MPI) released this information.
“Based on the analysis of the data, MPI has concluded that between January 20, 2025, and July 31, 2026, the Department of Homeland Security, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol, carried out approximately 980,000 deportations,” the report states.
It is noted that “except for brief statements by officials to news organizations and on social media, this is the first estimate of the total number of deportations during the current Trump administration.”.
More than two-thirds of the total deportations were of migrants who attempted to cross the US border directly. Of the remaining one-third, 61% were undocumented migrants who had been in the country for at least 2 years, and 15% were individuals who had lived in the US for 10 years or more.
Since his inauguration as the 47th President of the United States in January 2025, Donald Trump has repeatedly stated that approximately 25 million people entered the country illegally before his administration took office. The head of the White House has repeatedly advocated for stricter immigration policies.
