Number of people living with HIV in Azerbaijan

The number of citizens living with HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) officially registered in Azerbaijan has reached 12,435 people.

elchi reports that this information was provided by the Republican AIDS Prevention Center of the Ministry of Health in response to a query from Teleqraf.

It was stated that this statistic covers the period from 1987, when HIV infection was first detected, to August 2026. The situation with HIV in our country is regularly monitored by the relevant state bodies. Azerbaijan is among the countries with the lowest incidence of HIV in the Eastern Europe and Central Asia region.

It was noted that 19.1 percent of officially registered individuals are in the AIDS stage.

“Early detection of HIV infection and timely use of modern treatment options are of great importance in preventing the progression of the disease to the AIDS stage. The treatment and medical supervision of individuals living with HIV in Azerbaijan are carried out by relevant healthcare institutions,” the statement emphasized.
