The European Commission intends to create an equivalent of Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty before possible government changes in France and Germany.
elchi reports that Luxembourg Member of Parliament Fernand Kartheiser came to this conclusion in an interview with “Izvestia”.
“Leyen likely wants to act so quickly before any significant changes in the German and French governments,” the politician emphasized.
Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty provides for urgent consultations between alliance countries if one of them considers its territorial integrity, political independence, or security to be threatened. However, the Member of the European Parliament believes that given the current hysterical atmosphere in Europe, public opinion is unlikely to easily accept such a development.
