Important calls regarding Armenia: Azerbaijani representative spoke at the UN

AZE – Nigar Ramazanova, a representative of a member organization of the National NGO Forum of Azerbaijan, spoke at a meeting held within the framework of the 63rd session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on October 1st.

According to elchi, N. Ramazanova stated that lasting peace and human rights are not possible in a situation of impunity:

“To date, none of the individuals who committed grave crimes against Azerbaijanis during the conflict and occupation and are currently living in Armenia have been brought to justice. On the contrary, some segments of Armenian society present these individuals as heroes. The impunity of those who commit crimes is contrary to international justice and hinders genuine reconciliation between peoples.

Another disturbing issue is the rise of revanchist ideas in Armenian society. Some individuals and organizations that call for renewed aggression against Azerbaijan and make territorial claims are still active.

Concrete steps must be taken to achieve lasting peace. Those responsible for war crimes committed in the past must answer before the law, the activities of revanchist organizations calling for violence must be stopped, and structures that promote territorial claims against neighboring countries must be abolished.

Cultural heritage is the next very important issue. During the occupation, many valuable cultural examples were taken from Azerbaijani territories to Armenia. There are many positive examples in the world of returning stolen cultural assets. We also call on Armenia to return the cultural examples stolen during the occupation to Azerbaijan.

I would also like to note that the unfounded statements and activities of an organization called “Christian Solidarity International” targeting Azerbaijan negatively affect the ongoing peace and normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.”
