Acceptance of Russian passports restricted in four EU countries

Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and Sweden have stopped accepting Russia’s non-biometric foreign passports since October 1.

elchi reports that European diplomats in Moscow confirmed this information. The decision applies to 5-year passports that do not require biometric data for official processing. Now, only 10-year biometric passports will be recognized by the mentioned countries.

In Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg, ordinary non-biometric, as well as diplomatic and service passports of Russia, are considered invalid for visas and travel since October 1. Visas already issued with such passports will be valid until December 31, 2026. Sweden has also imposed similar restrictions, but an exception is provided until the end of 2026 for those with a visa or residence permit issued before October 1.
