Permanent representatives of European Union (EU) countries have reached a preliminary agreement to extend sanctions against several thousand Russian individuals and legal entities for a period of three years, while simultaneously agreeing to remove entrepreneurs Alisher Usmanov and Mikhail Fridman from the sanctions lists.
“Elchi” reports, citing “Reuters”, that European diplomats have stated this.
According to them, if none of the EU states object within the next few hours, the decision to remove Usmanov and Fridman will come into effect.
The agreement was reached as part of a package deal on extending sanctions against thousands of Russian individuals and legal entities. The three-year period significantly exceeds the usual six or 12-month sanction extension cycles.
The EU imposed sanctions against Usmanov and Fridman in 2022.
