Indian authorities have summoned Meta executives for a discussion following the brief blocking of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s post on Facebook.
elchi reports that this was stated to the ANI agency by the country’s Deputy Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, S. Krishnan.
According to the report, the government has demanded that the company “send high-ranking representatives to clarify the details of the incident, as well as to discuss issues related to company policy and technical problems.”
“Meta has sent a letter to the government expressing regret over what happened. They also explained the reasons for their understanding of the events and stated that they have implemented new protocols for the accounts of prominent figures starting July 28 to prevent similar incidents from recurring,” the deputy minister noted.
Krishnan emphasized that the authorities want to understand the causes of the problems that arose and learn how Meta can change its work processes to address the concerns of the Indian side. He also added that the meeting is expected to take place within the next 7-10 days.
These events occurred after a video by Modi dedicated to measures to combat the leakage of examination questions was temporarily removed from Facebook. On July 28, Meta representatives stated that the content was removed due to a technical error and was restored once it was discovered.
The video, which was first posted on July 23, was temporarily unavailable on Facebook on the morning of July 28, after which access to it was restored.
