France prepares for another heatwave

Forest fires that have been raging for days in the Gironde region of southwestern France have flared up in new locations as temperatures rise again. Firefighters are continuing their efforts to bring the flames under control. Temperatures in the region are expected to reach 40 degrees. Currently, 2,000 firefighters are working in the Gironde region. The danger persists as flames have reignited in 14 different locations previously affected by the fires.
elchi reports that while temperatures in the region are expected to reach 40 degrees, similar temperatures are also forecast to affect Spain.
Thousands of people evacuated
Over the past week, more than 70,000 people have been evacuated due to the fires. Although most of those evacuated have begun to return to their homes, dozens of residential areas remain at risk. The number of people evacuated across France has recently exceeded 220,000.
Efforts to combat the fires continue in Spain and neighboring Portugal. In Portugal’s Guarda region, 400 firefighters are working to extinguish a fire spreading in three different directions. Air Quality Deteriorates in Bordeaux
Although the flames have approached within 15 kilometers of the Bordeaux city center, the city is not under direct threat. However, the negative effects of the fire on Bordeaux and the surrounding metropolitan area continue.
Air quality in the city has deteriorated significantly, and numerous restaurants and businesses have been forced to close due to smoke and ash.
Campsites near Lacanau have been completely evacuated, and it has been reported that approximately 240 homes in the region have been damaged or completely destroyed by the fires.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that a person suspected of starting a fire in the Var region faces up to 15 years in prison. Since July 6, 184 people have been detained in connection with the fires occurring in the region.
