The International Olympic Committee has lifted the restrictions imposed on the Russian Olympic Committee.
elchi reports that the International Olympic Committee has released information regarding this matter.
According to the official statement issued by the IOC Executive Board, the decision was made following a detailed analysis conducted by the Legal Affairs Commission.
It was stated that the Russian Olympic Committee no longer includes regional sports organizations operating in territories under the jurisdiction of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine. Furthermore, the ROC has confirmed that it will not operate in those territories.
However, the IOC emphasized that it will continue to monitor the activities of the Russian Olympic Committee regarding the aforementioned territories and may take further measures if necessary.
It should be noted that the Russian Olympic Committee was suspended by the IOC in October 2023 for incorporating regional Olympic councils in the occupied Ukrainian regions of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia into its membership.
Prior to this, following Russia’s full-scale military invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Russian athletes were generally only able to participate in international competitions under a neutral status.
