South Korea has stated that heavy rains could wash landmines planted by North Korea along the border into the country.
“Elchi” reports that, according to the Yonhap news agency, South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff issued a statement regarding the landmines planted by North Korea along the border as the heavy rainy season approaches. The statement warned that landmines planted by North Korea north of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) separating the two countries could be washed into South Korea due to heavy rains, and urged the public to avoid approaching unknown objects and to report any suspicious situations to the military.
