In New York City, more than 378 people have sought emergency medical care due to heat-related illnesses. Due to the extreme heat, 22 people died in New Jersey, 2 in Mississippi, and 1 in Illinois.
The National Weather Service (NWS) expects heat warnings to continue in the eastern part of the country, and temperatures in cities such as Washington, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Raleigh, Charleston, and Jacksonville are expected to be between 37.7 and 40.5 degrees Celsius when combined with humidity.
