“Slimming tea” products under the “Tea By Gunay” and “Metobix çayı” trademarks, which were being sold illegally, have been detected.
“Elchi” reports that the Food Safety Agency (AQTA) has released information regarding this matter.
It was stated that during the inspection, it was determined that the products were not labeled in accordance with legislative requirements.
“Specifically, the expiration date, manufacturer’s address, product composition, and other necessary information were not indicated on the products. It was also discovered that the products contained claims about being used for the treatment of diseases and were being sold without the appropriate authorization documents.
In their statements, Həsənova Günay Abas qızı and Mehtizadə Çiçək Alı qızı explained that they obtained the mentioned teas from various pharmacies, prepared them from natural herbs, packaged them at home, and sold them online through their Instagram accounts (“tea_by_gunay”, “healthby_mehtizadeh”) without any authorization documents. During the investigation, it was also determined that these individuals presented themselves as “doctor-dietitians” on their social media accounts.
An administrative protocol has been drawn up regarding the facts, and samples have been taken from the products for laboratory testing to determine their quality and safety indicators. At the same time, official requests have been sent to the relevant state authorities regarding illegal entrepreneurial activity and medical practice.
AQTA once again advises consumers to be cautious when purchasing products sold through social networks and other online platforms, especially those used for weight loss. When purchasing such products, attention should be paid to the completeness of their label information, the availability of information about the manufacturer and the product’s composition, as well as whether the sale is carried out in accordance with the requirements of the legislation,” the statement noted.
