The Milli Majlis Support Group for the People of Corsica has issued a statement.
According to elchi, the statement says that the adoption of the constitutional bill in the French National Assembly, which provides for the establishment of the broadest special autonomy status for Corsica within the French Republic, is an important milestone in the history of the Corsican people.
“The bill provides for granting the broadest self-governance powers to Corsica, taking into account the island’s historical, cultural, social, and geographical characteristics, and in this regard, it is assessed as an important political result of the peaceful, democratic, and consistent struggle waged by the Corsican people for many years.
We, as the Milli Majlis Support Group for the People of Corsica, highly appreciate this determination, resolve, and commitment to democratic principles of the Corsican people, and we sincerely applaud them. The determination and resolve demonstrated by the Corsican people in determining their own future once again show that the legitimate demands of peoples sooner or later find their reflection in the political arena. In this regard, the decision adopted in the French National Assembly is not only a legislative act but also an important political achievement of the long-term struggle of the Corsican people.
We hope that the French Senate will also demonstrate historical responsibility by supporting the decision adopted by the French National Assembly, thereby expressing respect for the democratic will of the Corsican people,” the statement says.
The statement also noted that the Support Group for the People of Corsica of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan will continue to support the objective assessment by the international community of the legitimate rights, democratic will, and peaceful political struggle of the Corsican people: “The Support Group for the People of Corsica of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan calls for granting the broadest autonomy status to the Corsican people while preserving their historical, national, and cultural identity.”
