The 16th meeting of the Azerbaijan-Belarus Intergovernmental Commission has been held.

A delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Samir Sharifov, who is on an official visit to the Republic of Belarus to participate in the 16th meeting of the Azerbaijan-Belarus Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, visited the Victory Monument in Minsk.
During his visit to Belarus, Samir Sharifov visited the Azerbaijan Trade House operating in Minsk and the “Pershy Regional Trade Center,” where local Belarusian products are showcased. While familiarizing himself with the products presented under the “Made in Azerbaijan” brand at the Azerbaijan Trade House, Samir Sharifov emphasized that this platform plays a significant role in promoting Azerbaijani products in the Belarusian market, expanding export opportunities, and developing business relations.
At the “Pershy” trade center, the Deputy Prime Minister reviewed products manufactured in various regions of Belarus and noted the importance of exchanging experience in the fields of promoting local production and developing trade infrastructure.
During a meeting at the Cabinet of Ministers of Belarus, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Aleksandr Turchin, welcoming the Azerbaijani delegation, stated that industrial cooperation and new projects play a vital role as strategic “growth points” in the mutual economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Belarus. Turchin emphasized the long-term and solid partnership relations between the two countries and noted that expanding mutual trade and economic cooperation and implementing new industrial projects would bring mutual benefits.
A. Turchin highly appreciated the prospects for joint production areas in industrial cooperation, including mechanical engineering, special and utility vehicles, as well as other products.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that deepening cooperation would contribute to the growth of trade turnover between Belarus and Azerbaijan, the expansion of mutual investment projects, and the creation of new joint ventures. In this context, the parties noted the importance of strengthening mutual business ties to put forward new initiatives and implement practical projects in the field of industrial cooperation.
Subsequently, the 16th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Belarus was held in Minsk. The meeting was co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Samir Sharifov from the Azerbaijani side and Deputy Prime Minister Natalya Petkevich from the Belarusian side.
Speaking at the forum, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Natalya Petkevich stated that the relations between Azerbaijan and Belarus are based on friendship and mutual trust that have stood the test of time. She noted that the target set by the heads of state to reach a bilateral trade turnover of 1 billion US dollars demonstrates the high potential for cooperation between the countries.
N. Petkevich emphasized that industrial cooperation, the creation of joint ventures, and cooperation in the agricultural sector are among the main directions for the development of bilateral relations. Within the framework of the forum, new partnership opportunities and joint investment projects were also discussed among business circles.
Speaking at the meeting, Samir Sharifov emphasized that Azerbaijan-Belarus relations are successfully developing based on mutual trust and high-level political dialogue formed between the heads of state, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of the Republic of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko. He noted that the Intergovernmental Commission plays an important role in expanding cooperation between the two countries and ensuring the implementation of reached agreements.
S. Sharifov stated that despite global economic challenges, trade relations between Azerbaijan and Belarus show positive dynamics. During the first four months of 2026, mutual trade turnover increased by more than 11 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 158 million US dollars. The parties agreed to take additional measures to further increase trade turnover, diversify the export nomenclature, and expand investment cooperation.
S. Sharifov noted that the Azerbaijan Trade House operating in Belarus plays an important role in the development of bilateral trade relations. It was stated that this platform makes a significant contribution to the promotion of Azerbaijani products in the Belarusian market, the expansion of exports, and the strengthening of business ties.
At the meeting, industrial cooperation was assessed as one of the most promising areas of cooperation. It was noted that the Ganja Automobile Plant successfully continues the production of tractors, trucks, utility, and special vehicles within the framework of cooperation with leading industrial enterprises of Belarus.
The parties also discussed the possibilities of implementing new joint projects in the fields of household appliance production, elevator equipment assembly, pharmaceutical and veterinary drug production, as well as the preparation of mineral fertilizers in Azerbaijan.
Special attention was paid to joint projects implemented in the liberated territories. The implementation of the agro-town project in the village of Gizil Kangarli in the Aghdam district, carried out with the participation of the Belarusian side, was highly appreciated. The parties agreed to implement the next stages of the project on time and to continue cooperation in the direction of creating agro-industrial complexes.
Issues regarding the development of cooperation in the agricultural sector, food security, strengthening integration between veterinary and phytosanitary control systems, and increasing the mutual export of agricultural products were also discussed extensively.
Development of cooperation in the field of transport and logistics was also one of the main topics of the meeting. It was noted that the volume of transit shipments increased by more than 63 percent in January-April 2026. The parties agreed to continue joint activities in the direction of digitizing cargo transportation, expanding electronic data exchange, and deepening cooperation on international transport routes.
Results achieved in the field of humanitarian cooperation were also highly appreciated. It is planned to create new cooperation mechanisms in the fields of culture, education, healthcare, youth policy, and sports, expand the exchange of specialists, and implement joint projects.
Within the framework of the meeting, the final Protocol of the 16th meeting of the Azerbaijan-Belarus Intergovernmental Commission, a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus, a cooperation program in the field of physical culture and sports for 2026–2030, a Roadmap for cooperation in the field of healthcare between the Ministries of Health of Azerbaijan and Belarus for 2026–2027, and a contract between the Ganja Automobile Plant and “POJSNAB” on the assembly of firefighting equipment were signed.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their determination to continue joint efforts in the direction of strengthening the Azerbaijan-Belarus strategic partnership, expanding economic cooperation, and developing relations in all areas of mutual interest.
An agreement was reached to hold the next, 17th meeting of the Azerbaijan-Belarus Intergovernmental Commission in Baku in 2027.
