The person who stole the bas-relief from the grave of the late journalist Najaf Najafov has been arrested.
“Elchi” reports that U. Kazimov, born in 1973, suspected of committing the act, has been identified and detained by police officers.
A criminal case has been initiated regarding the fact. The bas-relief was discovered at the place where it was sold and seized as material evidence.
It should be noted that the incident was recorded in the Second Alley of Honor.
Najaf Najafov was the editor of the “Azerbaijan Youth” and “Azadlig” newspapers in the 80s and 90s, and one of the leaders of the national liberation movement. He held the post of Presidential Advisor in the government of Abulfaz Elchibey. He passed away in 1999.
By the decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev in 2004, Najaf Najafov was posthumously awarded the “Shohrat” Order for his great services in the formation of independent journalism in Azerbaijan.
