Merz refuses to talk to Trump

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has refused to hold a scheduled phone conversation with US President Donald Trump on Wednesday.

“Elchi” reports that this was stated by “The Guardian” newspaper.

The publication notes that Merz made this decision after the White House leader publicly applauded the victory of Germany’s opposition far-right “Alternative for Germany” (AfD) party in Saxony-Anhalt.

At the same time, a government representative for Merz refused to answer a question regarding whether there was indeed a connection between these two issues. However, he emphasized that the Chancellor has repeatedly spoken out against “external interference or the commentary of internal political processes, including elections.”
