US President Donald Trump has asked Chinese President Xi Jinping for help in ending the Russia-Ukraine war.
“Elchi” reports that the “South China Morning Post” has provided information on this, citing sources.
In the report, which the publication deleted minutes after posting, it was stated that during a meeting in Beijing in May, Trump told Xi that negotiations between Ukraine and Russia had reached a stalemate. The American leader asked his Chinese counterpart to urge Russian President Vladimir Putin to return to the negotiating table with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
According to sources, Trump’s message shows a clear need for the US to involve China in efforts to end the war. The US President has made resolving the war in Ukraine his primary foreign policy goal after returning to the White House in 2025.
The publication recalled that negotiations between Ukraine and Russia reached a stalemate after direct talks held in Istanbul in July 2025 ended without reaching a ceasefire agreement. Since then, Trump has begun to pressure Zelenskyy and urge him to reach an agreement with Putin.
