Speaker of the Milli Majlis meets with British Ambassador

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has met with Fergus Auld, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to our country.

This was reported to elchi by the Press and Public Relations Department of the Milli Majlis.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that the relations between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom, as friendly and partner countries, are successfully developing in political, economic, humanitarian, and other fields based on mutual trust and support.

Highlighting the importance of high-level visits and meetings in defining the cooperation agenda between our countries, the parties noted the visits of President Ilham Aliyev to the United Kingdom, the visit of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer to our country to participate in COP29, as well as a number of other high-level visits carried out by the other side.

It was stated during the conversation that economic relations are one of the main components of bilateral ties between our countries. The United Kingdom, one of Azerbaijan’s main trading partners, is the country that invests the most in our economy. In this context, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis particularly emphasized the cooperation in the energy sector.

Recalling with satisfaction her visits to the United Kingdom, as well as numerous meetings with high-level representatives of the United Kingdom visiting our country, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis noted the importance of the discussions held during these visits and meetings for the development of inter-parliamentary relations. It was brought to attention that the Milli Majlis working group on inter-parliamentary relations with the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is one of the largest groups. Sahiba Gafarova spoke about the importance of mutual visits and close dialogue in further expanding ties between legislative bodies.

Expressing his satisfaction with the close cooperation and partnership existing between our countries, Fergus Auld stated that cooperation between the two countries is successfully continuing and that there are broad prospects in energy, alternative energy, education, high technologies, and a number of other directions.

At the meeting, the parties also touched upon issues of cooperation in the humanitarian field, emphasizing that the high-level cooperation between our countries in the field of education serves to further strengthen the ties between our peoples.

During the conversation, an exchange of views took place on other issues of mutual interest.
