elchi reports that the State Statistics Committee has announced the number of elderly people in Azerbaijan.
It was stated that as of the beginning of 2026, the number of people aged 70 and above in the country was 589.6 thousand people.
365.5 thousand people of the urban population and 224.1 thousand people of the rural population are elderly.
336.1 thousand of the elderly people in Azerbaijan are women, and 253.5 thousand are men.
In response to a query from Modern.az, the Social Services Agency, subordinate to the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population, stated that 42 elderly individuals were admitted to social service institutions for the elderly in the first 8 months of 2026. Of them, 18 are women and 24 are men.
“Currently, 213 elderly individuals live under state care in the institution. Of them, 109 are men and 104 are women,” the agency stated.
