President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with the President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi on February 2.
Elchi.az reports that during the conversation, it was emphasized that the Azerbaijani-UAE bilateral relations are based on strategic partnership, and satisfaction was expressed with the development of cooperation between the two countries in all fields, including political, economic, energy, as well as renewable energy, cultural, humanitarian and other directions. The importance of mutual visits and meetings of both presidents to Azerbaijan and the UAE in expanding our relations was noted.
The importance of the joint operational-tactical exercises “Peace Shield – 2026” held in Abu Dhabi between the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates was touched upon at the meeting, and confidence was expressed that these exercises will contribute to the development of operational military compatibility between the Armed Forces of the two countries, and the importance of continuing this in the future was emphasized.
The heads of state exchanged views on the prospects of relations and future contacts.
Then, with the participation of the presidents of Azerbaijan and the UAE, a document on the purchase and sale agreement was signed regarding the sale of a certain part of the non-controlling share of the Ministry of Economy in “Southern Gas Corridor” CJSC to XRG Company, the investment arm of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company.
It should be noted that within the framework of the visit, a letter of intent on defense cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Defense of the United Arab Emirates was also signed.
The presidents of Azerbaijan and the UAE expressed their belief that these documents will give impetus to the further development of relations between the two countries.
During the conversation, the issues of establishing twinning relations between Baku and Abu Dhabi were also noted.
