Səbuhi Abbasov Calls on OSCE: Dialogue Must Begin Between the Community of Western Azerbaijan and Armenia (VIDEO)

At the OSCE Human Dimension Conference held in Warsaw, the right of Western Azerbaijanis to return to their native lands and the issue of dialogue with Armenia were raised.

In his speech, the Chairman of the Azerbaijan-Slavic Youth Association (ASGA), Səbuhi Abbasov, touched upon the issue of protecting the rights of refugees and internally displaced persons, emphasizing the importance of avoiding double standards in the face of historical injustices.

He stated that approximately 40 years ago, Azerbaijanis were expelled from their historical lands in Armenia, and their historical and cultural heritage was severely damaged. The speech highlighted the destruction of cemeteries belonging to Azerbaijanis, the alteration of the historical appearance of mosques and other holy sites, and the falsification of heritage.

Səbuhi Abbasov emphasized the importance of ensuring the right of Western Azerbaijanis to return to their native lands. He stressed that this issue should be considered in the context of human rights, historical justice, and reconciliation between peoples.

The ASGA chairman recalled that the Community of Western Azerbaijan has repeatedly declared its readiness for dialogue with the Armenian government. According to him, the Armenian side’s refusal to initiate dialogue hinders progress towards resolving the problem.

Səbuhi Abbasov called on the Armenian government to change its position and begin a dialogue with the Community of Western Azerbaijan to achieve historical reconciliation.

He also appealed to the OSCE, inviting the organization to encourage Armenia to start a dialogue with Western Azerbaijanis and to make appropriate calls in this regard.

The speech emphasized that protecting the rights of refugees and internally displaced persons, preserving historical heritage, and promoting peaceful dialogue are among the main directions of the human dimension. A consistent and fair approach to these issues can contribute to the formation of mutual trust and historical reconciliation in the region.

It should be noted that the visit was realized with the support of the State Support Agency for Non-Governmental Organizations.
