With the cooling of the weather, the demand for electric and gas heaters has significantly increased. In such cases, malfunctions in household electrical and gas systems, including the use of non-standard or homemade gas and electric heaters, overloading of the electrical network, carelessness, and lack of supervision can lead to fires or explosions.
elchi reports that the Ministry of Emergency Situations announced this in its appeal to the public regarding fire safety due to the cooling of the weather.
Despite the extensive awareness-raising efforts by the Ministry of Emergency Situations, it must be noted with regret that the disregard for safety rules by some citizens, individuals, and legal entities, as well as the negligence shown, ultimately lead to bitter consequences, resulting in loss of life, as well as damage to property and infrastructure.
In connection with the above, the Ministry of Emergency Situations appeals to the public, once again reminding them of the necessity to adhere to the important safety rules listed below:
– Do not use faulty or non-standard electrical and gas appliances and equipment;
– Keep electrical and gas systems in good working order at all times;
– Installation and repair of electrical and gas networks should only be entrusted to specialists;
– Electrical wires and extension cords should not be damaged and should not be overloaded;
– Electrical devices (phones, computers, etc.) and micromobility devices (electric scooters) should not be left connected to the network unattended indoors, especially at night, for charging purposes;
– The installation of electric charging devices for electric vehicles in underground parking lots of multi-story residential buildings and other enclosed areas without approved technical specifications should not be allowed;
– When using electric charging devices installed in accordance with construction norms and rules, they should not be left unattended;
– Electrical and gas appliances should not be used by children and should always be kept under supervision;
– Flammable materials should not be stored indoors, on balconies, or in stairwells;
– Electrical and gas appliances should not be left on when leaving the apartment;
– Upon entering the apartment, do not turn on lights, electrical appliances, or gas appliances, or use open flames without ensuring there is no gas leak. If you smell gas, immediately open doors and windows, shut off the gas supply to the apartment, and call a specialist;
– Unextinguished matches or cigarette butts should not be thrown into trash cans or from balconies.
To ensure your safety in case of a fire, cover your mouth and nose with a damp cloth material (towel, scarf, clothing, etc.) and move by bending over or crawling. To protect yourself from smoke in other rooms, seal the gaps around the door with a damp towel. Close doors and windows to prevent the fire from spreading. If it is impossible to leave the apartment, stand on the balcony or near the window and wait for firefighters. Do not use the elevator to leave the building. If a fire occurs in the electrical shafts, apartments, or various areas of multi-story buildings, residents of other apartments should not leave their apartments until rescuers arrive and should protect themselves from smoke by sealing the area around the entrance door with a damp cloth material.
By adhering to the indicated safety rules, harm to life and health will be prevented!
Remember, indifference to rules is a threat to our lives!”
The Ministry of Emergency Situations recommended calling 112 in case of emergency.
