Number of attacks on tankers in the Strait of Hormuz reaches a record high

The number of attacks on tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz last week reached its highest level since the start of the war with Iran.

“Elchi” reports, citing Reuters, that this is indicated by data from maritime security sources monitoring incidents in the region.

According to the information, at least 12 attacks were carried out on tankers carrying oil, liquefied natural gas, and petroleum products in the Strait of Hormuz area from September 28 to October 5.

On Sunday, the U.S. Naval Maritime Information Center reported that attacks, attempted attacks, and pursuit of vessels, including UAV flights, surveillance, and radio communication calls by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, continue in the strait.

“These actions indicate Iran’s continued intention to demonstrate its presence along key transit routes and to exert pressure on vessels moving along these routes,” the center’s report emphasized.

The agency noted that the increase in the number of incidents is occurring against the backdrop of increased exports by producers in the Persian Gulf countries.
