A unified regional structure representing Central Asia and the Caucasus as a whole has not yet been formed.
elchi reports that the Chairman of the Central Asia-Caucasus Institute, Frederick Starr, said this during his speech at the Central Asia–Mongolia–Caucasus–Afghanistan (CAMCA) Regional Forum held in Baku.
He stated that cooperation formats between the countries of the region and various external partners exist.
“Yes, there are various and useful formats that organize cooperation with the region from the outside. One of the first such formats was created between Japan and Central Asia more than 20 years ago. Later, Korea, Europe, Russia, and China also created their interaction formats. This is good, but in essence, it is centrifugal in nature,” Starr said.
According to him, in addition to this, in the last decade, relations between the two shores of the Caspian Sea have expanded in various directions, including transport, trade, tariffs, taxes, and tourism.
F. Starr noted that these processes create great prospects for the future development of regional cooperation.
