Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree ordering the number of active-duty military personnel to be increased to 1.55 million. This decision, which follows a similar increase implemented in August, comes at a time when casualties are rising for both Russia and Ukraine in a war that has been ongoing for more than four and a half years.
elchi reports that with this latest change, the total number of personnel in the Russian armed forces has reached 2,441,630, while the number of active-duty military personnel has increased by 15,500 to reach 1.55 million.
Claims regarding North Korean soldiers
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated in a social media post on Monday that there are more than 8,000 North Korean soldiers in Russian territory and that preparations are underway to send another 10,000 troops.
Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un had previously confirmed that North Korea had sent troops to support Russia, and both leaders referred to those soldiers as heroes.
Citing new information regarding the transfer of North Korean soldiers to Russia, Zelensky stated that these soldiers were selected for special training before being sent to Russia.
According to estimates by Ukraine and South Korea, North Korea has sent approximately 14,000-15,000 soldiers since 2024 to support Russia’s war efforts in Ukraine. Most of these soldiers have been deployed to the Kursk region to counter Ukraine’s cross-border operation.
