German Chancellor Friedrich Merts has traveled to Kyiv on an unannounced visit.
elchi reports that he shared this information on his “X” social media account.
“Decisive weeks await Ukraine. That is why I have come to Kyiv today to show that you can rely on us. Germany’s security also depends on the outcome of this war. That is why the aid we provide (to Ukraine – ed.) also serves our own interests,” he wrote.
According to the DPA agency, Merts is accompanied on the visit by Economy Minister Katerina Reiche and representatives of German business circles.
It is noted that Berlin intends to supply thousands of interceptor drones to Kyiv and begin the production of long-range weapons for Ukraine, which the Chancellor will announce within the framework of the visit. For these purposes, Germany plans to allocate 1 billion euros, and another 350 million euros should be directed towards the restoration of energy infrastructure.
