Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan addressed the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, stating that the President of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas—officially recognized as a state by the vast majority of member countries—has been unable to attend the General Assembly meeting for two years.

“This injustice against our Palestinian brothers wounds consciences,” the Turkish President noted.
He emphasized that even though M. Abbas cannot attend the meeting in person, Turkey will continue to be the voice of the State of Palestine, just as it was last year, and will continue to convey the struggle of the Palestinian people to the world from this podium.
At the end of his speech, the Turkish leader called on all countries that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine to reconsider their decision.
