The use of clothing that does not comply with the principle of secularism will not be allowed in educational institutions.
“Elchi” reports that the Cabinet of Ministers has made changes to the “Descriptions of uniforms for students of state general education institutions” in this regard.
According to the decision, the use of other clothing elements that violate the uniformity of the established school uniform or do not comply with the principle of secularism in general education is not permitted.
Also, the use of national costumes or elements of national costumes is allowed in events related to the history, culture, and national-moral values of the Azerbaijani people, based on the decision of the school’s Pedagogical Council.
It should be noted that the state education system is secular in nature. Secular education means that the school should be a neutral and inclusive environment for all students. A unified school uniform serves to ensure equality among students and a unified school environment, and has a positive impact on the formation of a sense of belonging to the collective, responsibility, and school identity in students.
Children not being distinguished from each other while sitting at the same desk also plays an important role in their relationships, and at the same time, it creates an opportunity to prevent socio-economic differences among students and reduce the risks of discrimination.
The issue of school uniforms is not just a matter of clothing, but also a matter of educational philosophy and social adaptation.
