The Main State Traffic Police Department of the MIA has addressed pedestrians regarding the rules.
According to the information provided to “Elchi” by the department, ensuring safety in road traffic requires not only drivers but also pedestrians to strictly follow the rules and behave responsibly:
“Unfortunately, in some cases, pedestrians entering the roadway without properly assessing road conditions, crossing in undesignated areas, and behaving carelessly result in serious traffic accidents.
When crossing the road, pedestrian crossings, overhead, and underground passages must be used. The presence of a pedestrian crossing is not enough to cross the road immediately. Before starting to move, the speed and distance of approaching vehicles must be correctly assessed, and it must be ensured that the driver sees the pedestrian and that conditions for a safe crossing are created.”
It was stated that it is especially important to be more careful at uncontrolled pedestrian crossings:
“Suddenly stepping in front of a vehicle, crossing the road in conditions of limited visibility, and relying on the car to stop immediately creates a serious danger. The right of way does not in any case justify moving without taking precautionary measures.
Using a mobile phone, earphones, and other distractions while crossing the road further increases the danger. A few seconds of inattention can lead to serious and irreversible consequences.”
