The “ALUFAR IRONMAN 70.3 Baku” international triathlon race has kicked off in Baku.
elchi reports that the event was attended by Anar Alakbarov, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Executive Director of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Farid Gayibov, Minister of Youth and Sports, Farid Farhadzade, President of the Azerbaijan Triathlon Federation, and other official guests.
More than 1,500 participants from 62 countries have joined the race.
Azerbaijan is represented by 123 athletes. The “IRONMAN 70.3” race is held for men and women across 13 age categories: 18–24, 25–29, 30–34, 35–39, 40–44, 45–49, 50–54, 55–59, 60–64, 65–69, 70–74, 75–79, and 80–84. In the main race, 807 of the total participants are men and 197 are women. The youngest participant is 18, and the oldest is 80 years old.
It should be recalled that in the “IRONMAN 70.3” race, participants will cover 1.9 kilometers of swimming, 90 kilometers of cycling, and 21.1 kilometers of running.
The 25 athletes who achieve the best results among men and women in the “IRONMAN 70.3 Baku” race will qualify for the “IRONMAN 70.3” World Championship to be held in the USA in 2027.
It is worth noting that the race is organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Azerbaijan Triathlon Federation, and the Baku City Circuit Operations Company.
