President of Azerbaijan: Double Standards in International Politics Must Be Completely Ended

“The policy of double standards must be completely ended in international politics.”

According to a report by elchi, this was stated by the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev at the opening of the VII Global Forum on Intercultural Dialogue.

“Another important issue to consider is the mechanism for the implementation of decisions by international organizations. Currently, many are talking about reforms in the United Nations. There is a sense of superiority, a belief that you will not be punished for the actions you commit against those you attack. Unfortunately, sometimes this situation lasts for a long time. Therefore, there must be a mechanism for the implementation of decisions, including UN Security Council resolutions. As I mentioned, we have been in such a situation for 30 years. The UN Security Council had adopted four resolutions demanding the liberation of Azerbaijani territories. However, these resolutions were not implemented. There was no mechanism to ensure their implementation. No sanctions were imposed against Armenia. But now, looking to the right and left, we see sanctions. Looking north and south from Azerbaijan, you see hundreds of sanctions imposed. But no sanctions were imposed against Armenia. This is a matter of double standards. This is nothing but double standards. We have always fought against double standards in politics and will continue to fight against them. This is one of the important directions of our foreign policy, as we have suffered from double standards and still feel their impact. Of course, calling what we are experiencing today ‘suffering’ might be too harsh an expression. In fact, it is not suffering, because we have already achieved what we wanted and live freely on our lands. Nevertheless, the policy of double standards must be completely ended in international politics. Our society has zero tolerance for double standards,” the head of state noted.
