We have created a completely new situation in the South Caucasus.
According to elchi, this was stated by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at the opening of the VII Global Forum on Intercultural Dialogue.
“Except for the period of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Global Forum on Intercultural Dialogue has been held every two years. There was a certain pause during the pandemic, but now we have returned to the previous schedule. I recall the last Forum held in 2024. At that time, we discussed important issues on the global agenda. However, over the past two years, we see how many issues have changed in both positive and negative directions. Among the negative aspects, the outbreak of new wars in our vicinity can be noted,” the head of state noted.
The President of Azerbaijan pointed to the achievement of peace with Armenia as one of the positive aspects.
President Ilham Aliyev recalled that the peace agreement with Armenia was initialed in August last year: “The place where the agreement was initialed also carries great symbolic meaning. It was initialed in Washington, at the White House, with the participation of US President Donald Trump. The Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia signed the initialed text of the peace agreement, not a document of disagreement, in front of the US President. Along with this, a Joint Declaration was also signed. The US President signed this document as a witness. Thus, we not only restored justice and liberated our territories but also created a completely new situation in the South Caucasus that did not exist before in the history of independent South Caucasian states. Moreover, we formalized this new reality at the White House,” the head of state noted.
