New and sensational information has emerged regarding Kazim Elshan oglu Abbasov, who has 3 court convictions, changed his father’s name and later his own name to hide his past, and presented himself as the Jew “David Seliverstov”. The reasons for his blackmailing of human rights defender Chingiz Ganizade, Nasimi Mammadov, whose brother is currently in prison, and his friend Rashad Allahverdiyev via social media are also very intriguing.
What has happened suggests that this is not just about a person trying to change his name and distance himself from his past. Azerbaijani society is facing a “hardened” fraudster who has nothing left to lose. There is a $90,000 fraud operation, serious accusations from victims, and numerous questions waiting for answers. Meanwhile, he is shouting from abroad, throwing dust in people’s eyes, and blackmailing Nasimi Mammadov, from whom he took money through fraud, and his imprisoned brother by threatening to aggravate the sentence against him.
“Elchi” reports, citing Musavat.com, that a reporter from the site contacted Nasimi Mammadov and Rashad Allahverdiyev regarding the matter.
Victim Nasimi Mammadov, who was swindled out of $90,000, and Rashad Allahverdiyev, an eyewitness to the process of handing over and returning the money, revealed all the details of what happened to Musavat.com. Rashad Allahverdiyev stated that “David Seliverstov” is clearly distorting the facts in his latest social media post and trying to mislead the public:
“In his latest post, ‘David’ posted a picture of Nasimi Mammadov, from whom he took $90,000, and me. He is trying to present it as if this money was given to him as a loan by editing my voice. However, anyone who listens carefully to the audio recording can hear that the word ‘loan’ was artificially stretched and edited. In that conversation, I clearly said, ‘When we gave you the money, we didn’t go to a notary, we didn’t sign a contract, and we didn’t give it as a loan. Now, if you are filming while bringing the money back, go ahead, we are doing it too.’
We also have video footage reflecting the process of returning the money, and it has already been officially submitted to law enforcement agencies.”
Rashad Allahverdiyev added that after “David Seliverstov” fled the country, he returned the money to the victims through intermediaries:
“This ‘David’ hadn’t given the money back for 8 months. That’s why we contacted human rights defender Chingiz Ganizade to ask if he knew such a person and told him what happened to us. He made the issue public. Three days later, ‘David’s’ people contacted us and said they wanted to return the money. One of the people who brought the money was a woman named Shalala, who introduced herself as a person close to ‘David’, and the other was a car dealer named Natiq. When those people came, they tried to cover up the matter by using the names of various influential people.”
Rashad Allahverdiyev also explained the reason why $90,000 was taken from Nasimi Mammadov by “David Seliverstov”. He said that Nasimi Mammadov’s brother is currently in prison, and he was looking for ways to strengthen his brother’s legal defense. He met “David Seliverstov” through a mutual acquaintance.
Nasimi Mammadov recalled that episode as follows:
“We met with him on November 24 last year. He introduced himself to us as ‘David Seliverstov’. He came to the meeting in a car with flashing lights, accompanied by his driver and bodyguard. He mentioned the name of MP Anatoliy Rafailov and said, ‘He is my uncle.’ Then he took the money in his office in Bail and signed a contract for legal aid. He did not show the amount in the contract. When asked why, he said it was just a formality. Then we saw that he was actually doing no work. When we asked for the money back, he demanded a larger amount from us, claiming he would do some work. I insistently demanded the money I had given back. For exactly 8 months, we could not get the funds back from him. During this time, he threatened us, used insults, and did not answer our calls many times. He was threatening, saying, ‘Where are you, tell me your location, I will send the police there, I will ruin your brother’s life in prison.’ He avoided returning our money for exactly 8 months. Only 3 days after we applied to human rights defenders and the issue was made public on August 5, he called in a panic in the evening and brought the money back. The callers were the Baku people of this troublesome ‘international human rights defender’. They even gave $3,000 less when they brought the money, and after our insistence, they were forced to return the full amount.”
Nasimi Mammadov noted that Chingiz Ganizade and other human rights defenders raised the issue specifically regarding the episode of his being swindled:
“Today, ‘David Seliverstov’ has fled abroad and is engaged in blackmail from there. He thinks he will say whatever comes to his mind, and we will be afraid and back down. It’s not about talking nonsense from afar; if you have the courage, come to Azerbaijan!”
Responding to “David Seliverstov’s” attempts to manipulate via social media from abroad, Nasimi Mammadov called on him to return to the country and answer in the legal field:
“He wants to divert attention from his crimes by writing lies from abroad, mentioning the names of various people, and blackmailing human rights defenders. I have already officially submitted my statements, documents, and the correspondence between us to the relevant law enforcement agencies. If he is right, let him come to Azerbaijan, call me, and we will go to the law enforcement agencies together. It is impossible to escape responsibility by blackmailing and spreading lies from afar. He took the money from me and later returned it through his people. He even had the video of the money being returned filmed himself, thinking he would blackmail us with this video and we would stay silent. Since his fraud was fully exposed, he thinks we will back down by releasing the video. If he is right, let him come to Azerbaijan, and let’s go to the law enforcement agencies.”
Currently, applications have been made to law enforcement agencies regarding the facts of “David Seliverstov” deceiving numerous people under different names – by claiming he would build a business, bring car spare parts from abroad, or manage the work that God Nisanov is supposedly going to do in Azerbaijan.
