Although Kazakhstan currently sees no economic or volume-based alternative to the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC), it is working on the development of new export routes.
According to Interfax, this was stated by Askhat Khasenov, Chairman of the Management Board of KazMunayGas, at a meeting of the Samruk-Kazyna Public Council.
According to him, within the framework of diversifying export routes, special attention is being paid to the development of the transport corridor passing through Azerbaijan.
“One of the important routes is the direction extending from Atyrau to Aktau and then through Azerbaijan. Currently, a feasibility study for this project is being prepared,” the head of KazMunayGas said.
Khasenov added that a feasibility study is also being initiated with Chinese partners for the project to expand the Kazakhstan–China oil pipeline.
It should be noted that the Caspian Pipeline Consortium is the main export route for oil produced from Kazakhstan’s Tengiz, Kashagan, and Karachaganak fields. It is projected that approximately 70.5 million tons of oil will be transported through the consortium in 2025, and 72 million tons in 2026. Foreign shippers include Chevron, ExxonMobil, Eni, Shell, and KazMunayGas.
