Turkey-Greece relations are too sensitive and important to be used as election material.
“Elchi” reports that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated this to journalists at the Turkish House in New York, on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations (UN) General Assembly.
“We have no intention of interfering in the internal politics of Greece or any other neighbor. Whether there is an election in Greece, a change in government, or a change in opposition; these are not our concerns,” he said.
Erdoğan noted that the main issue is Turkey’s rights, security, and the preservation of peace and stability in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean: “First and foremost, I want to state this very clearly; Turkey is not Greece’s enemy, but its neighbor and an ally under the NATO umbrella.
Relations between the two countries are too sensitive and important to be used as election material. We view the discussions in question from this perspective. We are focused on our own agenda and are currently busy with our own work.”
