The Board of the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport has approved the “Rules for the temporary operation of the railway safety zone”.
“Elchi” reports, citing “Azerbaijan Railways” CJSC, that these Rules cover the temporary operation of the railway safety zone to ensure the implementation of projects for the improvement of the Baku – Khirdalan – Sumgayit and Baku – Pirshagi – Sumgayit railway lines, as well as the restoration of the Bakikhanov – Bina – Gala, Zabrat – Mashtaga – Baglar, Yeni Surakhani – Hovsan, and Guzdak – Garadagh railway lines, as envisaged in the “Action Plan for the implementation of the State Program for the improvement of transport infrastructure in Baku and surrounding areas for 2025–2030”.
According to the Rules, the railway safety zone refers to land plots with a special usage regime located within a distance of 11 meters to the left and right of the axes of the railway lines along the track.
“Azerbaijan Railways” CJSC (ADY) will install protective fences or nets within the safety zone, located 9 meters to the left and right of the railway line axis, with a height not exceeding 2.20 meters from the ground surface. Additionally, to ensure the safe passage of people, vehicles, and animals through the safety zone, multi-level or guarded special crossings will be organized at intersections with roads (streets), taking into account the frequency of train movements and the intensity of vehicle traffic.
To organize the protection of the safety zone, the area will be equipped with video surveillance systems and monitored 24/7.
According to the Rules, the placement and construction of other types of facilities, buildings, and structures within the safety zone are not permitted.
It should be noted that ADY, which places special importance on the safety of passengers as well as hundreds of thousands of people living around the railway infrastructure, has been carrying out large-scale work in recent years to modernize the railway infrastructure and increase traffic safety. To this end, regular awareness-raising activities are held, especially meetings in educational institutions, work continues on improving infrastructure at crossings and updating road signs, and 100,000 meters of fencing (metal nets) have been installed along the Absheron circular railway route and in the Kurdamir section.
